when mom is away...

evan's hair disappears. Here's the tiny story...I go to Minneapolis for a girl's weekend with some friends and to visit my sister. So that means it's Eric's first weekend alone with Evan. I had no worries what-so-ever. Eric is great with Evan and knows exactly what to do - routines, how to get him to eat, etc. However, I come home Sunday afternoon to a bald son. It was supposed to be just a trim around the ears, but I guess Evan moved, so Eric had to shave his head! I'm not too upset, but it's going to take A LONG TIME for it to grow back. Eric called me about two hours before I was back in town with the confession. Here's how the conversation went:

Eric: Hey, how are you?
Beth: Good, what's up?
Eric: Well, do you want the good news or the bad news?
Beth: Of course, give me the bad news.
Eric: Ok, how about the good news first? The good news is that Evan likes having his hair cut.
Beth: WHAT?!
Eric: The bad news is that he doesn't have any.

Beth: WHAT?!

getting ready...

for Halloween. We've got about 7 costumes to choose from as far as Evan is concerned, thanks to my mom and her love for garage sales.

bath time.

I've said it before, but Evan is happiest when he's in the water. Getting him out of it is usually where the struggle lies.

treinen farms.

Saturday we went to a farm located near Lodi that has tons of fun stuff do see and do. They have the largest corn maze in Wisconsin, a childrens corn maze, food, live music, a pumpkin patch, play area, animals, and more. Evan had a great time playing and checking out all the new things. They also had this hug "tub" filled with corn, and Evan sat in for almost 20 mintues, just playing with the corn and smiling. My mom, aunt Mary, and cousin Laura joined us. The band "Need to Breathe" perfomed in the late afternoon, and Evan walked right up to them during their soundcheck. It was cute to see the guys smiling and talking to him from the stage.

high school football.

Evan got a little to close too the action Thursday night. Good thing he has lightning quick reflexes.

Eric and I saw "Burn After Reading" a few days ago...it's hilarious. I highly recommend it, although it's probably just as good as a rental.

back to the zoo.

We decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather yesterday and packed up to kids to head to the zoo. My mom and my Aunt Anne, visiting from Colorado, joined us. Evan and Jackson had a great time. I love the picture of the two of them in the stroller and also the one of Evan pointing at the lion.

We visited Aunt Barb and Uncle Jim over the weekend for a quick visit, and they had all sorts of toys ready for Evan. He went from person to person, "painting" each face.

One of my mom's favorite things to do is shop for Evan, and this is the latest. Now, no one in our family really likes Nascar, but oh my, Evan looks way too cute in it. Actually, I was laughing at him for most of the morning.

We also love going to visit cousin Jackson, not only for the company, but also for his awesome play room. Evan has such a good time at their house, playing with Jack and checking out all the new toys.

corn on the cob, family, the end of summer.

It feels like summer is coming to an official end, what with football rolling around and obviously the start of school. Uncle Tom and Aunt Sue had one last summer blast at their house, with corn on the cob, chicken, and a birthday cake for Matt. Evan gobbled up the corn. He wasn't too excited about the cob part of it, but after I cut some off for him he went to town.

the iron man.

All day sunday, over 2,000 crazy people thought it would be a good idea to compete in the Ironman competition. What is wrong with some people? :)

Our good friends, Kedra & Joe, who recently moved to Kansas City, were back in town so that Joe could once again swim, bike, and run all day. A bunch of people Eric knows from the pool also took part, so it was fun to cheer everyone on.
